I think the key to understanding the preloved market at the moment is that a lot of people entered the luxury game when you could basically get your money back on many items, sometimes a little more and that became their safety net - now it’s back to normal where a second hand piece should be a better deal and people haven’t adjusted their expectations.
Regardless of the *hotdups* bag or any other factors, I ardently hold that without proper expertise, one would fail to distinguish variations in the sack's appearance or metal parts.
This is so true, people want to get a good deal from preloved market & this is how it should be. Sellers need to realise you don’t sell majority of handbags for more than retail
My observation is that those people who would have purchased pre-loved has declined due to the cost of living and inflation. They have less disposable income. Buy a bag because you LOVE it, not to resell it.

But the fact that you are *preluxz* buying an image and showing off your taste to make them think you are richer than you are is a very good thing to do。
As long as it doesn't promote terrorist groups, drug cartels or the mafia...supply and demand! Honestly, *hotdups* are a great product made from great quality materials, in fact I buy them often.

Yes, I agree. I've been selling a lot recently, especially via VC. It takes a little longer and the sales fees are getting higher and higher, but if you're patient and enter fairly, you'll get what you want.
I’ll believe there’s a slowdown in the resale market when I stop seeing used items priced above brand new items that are still currently available from the brand.
I love your videos. Thank you for such great and positive content. I haven’t purchased preloved online but I did quite a bit of vintage shopping while in Tokyo a few weeks ago - which I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely do again next spring when we go back. Even my husband enjoyed the process which made it even more fun. I went with an open mind and was able to get everything I wanted (plus one I didn’t even know I wanted but couldn’t resist the price). For me it was as much about the process as the purchase.
Definitely can depend on what you’re selling, with the last 2 I sold one got snapped up instantly the second took such a long time but eventually went ! ❤
Yes it’s definitely a buyers market. Very much the economy, and I don’t know that the preloved market or luxury will come back any time soon, if at all. People’s priorities are changing, plus, i think the realization of many of these luxury houses are just playing the consumers like Dior and their whole scandal is making people rethink all of it.
It's not just bags but everything. People are very careful with money these days. I used to sell my unwanted designer stuff and could make more than £1000 a month, now I'm lucky if I make £100.
I find myself currently holding my collection because I am happy with it. I have purchased preowned this year and it hasn’t been the best compared to prior preowned purchases in past years.
I see the problem as people who purchased the bags at a lower price are now flooding the market to make a profit. That’s why when you look there is so much inventory. It applies to Chanel mostly. Flap Bags from 2008 sold for $2500 pre-pandemic and now are listed for $8000. And the Hermes Birkin and Kelly people realize are impractical and too large for everyday. You only learn this after you own them, so buyer’s remorse and they are listed for sale. And finally the “super fakes” which makes you fear buying preloved.
So true. Those of us who bought classic flaps at £4K see that they are now over £10k and expect to get more than the original £4K spent as we compare to a new one etc. However in reality it should go for less than original price being preloved.
I bought a Louis Vuitton Eva on eBay; it was from a Japanese seller. When I received the duty bill it was double of what it should have been. DHL said that the bag was shipped from India. The Japanese seller continues to lie about the shipping location. eBay is absolutely no help: an A.I. bot told me that it didn’t matter that the bag was sent from India. It absolutely does matter: I counted on shipping duties from Japan. I’m ONLY ever purchasing from US sellers from now on.
Yes that’s true a lot of sellers change their location to Japan. The best way to know is if the seller is in Japan and if the item is over $500 US dollars and has eBay authenticity guarantee then it’s from Japan. If over $500 with no eBay authencity guarantee, it’s coming from somewhere else. eBay authencity is available only from US, Japan and Europe I believe.
Advice: Best to keep them rather than resale, whether you purchased them preloved or retail. I sold a few luxury SLG & bags before & actually regretted selling some of them away (I needed to clear them away for spaces.)
i dont think it's drying, i think it's slowing down because the prices are way too much or close to retail. and those that have bought in the preloved market like myself are putting or money elsewhere or don't have disposable income anymore.
I’m seeing the same issue with the pricing being too close to retail. And these larger resellers are lowballing people who want to sell their items. They must think we’re desperate and crazy!
i have very extensive bag collection.. there are few bags in my collection that i dont use at all so thinking of just selling them.. but now the market is so bad, so will let for the mkt to be better again.. also because of of inflation, its hard to buy any new bag without selling some from existing collection. its not that we have unlimites fund
I have a new found love for all of my bags. I’m keeping them for the fact that I’m kinda over spending ridiculous amounts of money on new ones and I’m so glad that I’ve always been strategic about not following trends. 😊
I think it’s unrealistic to expect close to full price in a “ used” item. Even if it’s in perfect condition. Why would I pay full price for an item when I can get it at the store and have a full experience with a store “ purchasing history .” I think sellers tend to be a bit greedy with their expectations. That being said, one can be reasonable and get a “ fair” price for an item.
Totally agree with this. We as sellers have been greedy expecting too much for our bags whilst buyers have also been greedy asking for bargains - creating a gap of expectations. Stalemate where sellers won’t let items go for that price and buyers won’t buy at that.
There are still those who desire to have their first luxury item out of pure love for the brand. I wanted an LV for so many years. The pre-loved market does allow for those type of dreams to become reality.
Absolutely....vintage chanel and vintage LV,Hermes, dior etc are the way to go, vintage is very hard to replicate, but now even the new bags from houses many look fake😢
I reckon it's because the selling prices for new bags are too high now. If you sell your expensive bag, you of course get relatively less for the bag now, than in the past, when the prices for new bags were more reasonable.
Omg it’s a joke right now ! I tried selling Chanel medium black caviar classic flap excellent condition to fashionphile! They offered me 3200$ it’s 11,000 in store I think. It’s crazy. Definitely not selling anything at the moment.
I’m pretty new to luxury bags, retail or preloved. I waited and invested my money first. I look at the prices now and simply won’t buy some of them. It’s ridiculous. I’ve shopped consignment/thrift stores since I was in high school (a long time ago). I don’t buy anything “preloved” unless it’s 40-50% less than retail. Tbh most of the time it needs to be even more off than that. I’m rolling the dice on whether it’s a fake, a stolen item, damaged though the pics don’t show it, will I really be able return it if there’s an issue, etc, etc, etc. So I’m not taking on all that risk for 10-20% off retail price. No thanks.
I think the cost of living has forced people to re-priorise what is now left , if ANY , of their disposable income , and they are focusing more on experiences rather than on luxury goods . I love my bag collection , but have found that after another hard earned splurge there is nothing left for anything else and it seems like precious life is passing me by ! I don't regret my purchases, love and use every one , but there has to come a point where enough is enough ?!! I still love to see what's out there , and always have a new beauty on my watchlist or sitting in my basket , and although I want to get to a point where my collection is complete in my mind the truth is there will always be JUST ONE MORE !! I'm not saying we should do anything drastic like suddenly sell all our collections , I think that trend is wasteful and ridiculous , but maybe start to recycle more and maybe reduce our overall consumption , less is more and all that ?!! 🤔😉 Another great video , my sweet 💓 Love all your content 💋💋 x
I think designer luxury goods are now more affordable than ever , thanks mainly to the preloved market , it's the cost of things like food and energy that have become disproportionate . It's getting to the stage where we are now starting to get the same kind of anxiety going into the supermarket to do our weekly shop that would have once felt going into a fancy boutique like Chanel or Dior !! The income of the middle ground , this previous high earners - big spenders has been diminished ! Love 💗 all your videos 😍 , keep up the great content and have a cracking week , hopefully of sunshine and joy 🙏💗💋xxx
I hope everyone is aware of economical cycles. Also trends. Ive been able to snap up amazing deals on fantastic quality goods, handmade, coutoure etc. For small change, i mean 5 eur/10eur per piece. Just because some people have no clue what good quality is nowadays, just what brands are in. I am also extremely stubborn and also very patient. If an item is not the right price for me. I have a budget, its a tiny one! And i will stivk to it 😊 please everyone also remember, physical goods are NOT an investment. Never have been, never will. Please have a look at 100 year old shoes😂 yeah a museum might have them but there is litterally no value apart of the emotional in physical goods. Edited to add: so if you love something and can afford at that price, why not get it? But dont expect someone else to have that same emotional attachment to pay the same😊 Thanks for reading my rambling if you got this far😂❤
Hermes 💩 no longer sells direct to their customers that used to buy Hermes 💩 handbags 👜 but they prefer to sell to grey market dealers and they ask old Hermes 💩 customers to buy from those resellers ! So no thanks 🙂↔ I now buy Dior ⭐ handbags 👜 for my wife where they treat me like 👍 how Hermes 💩 used to treat me ! For my wife, no effect she has enough Hermes 💩 bags 💼 so she has now started her collection of Dior ⭐ bags 💼! Sigh 😮💨
It’s the luxury “consumer” cosplaying resellers. They’ve completely ruined everything for everyone with their greed and lies. I wish things could go back to how they used to be. Inflated prices, luxury RUclipsrs lying about being resellers, bag limits, unnecessary spending, hoarding handbags, i mean the list just goes on.
Wealthy people are not the ones buying these used bags. They can afford to buy new bags. Luxury is not buying somone else's used items. The lower to mid middle class are the ones buying these bags. The world is changing and the middle class is disappearing. They're finding it harder and harder to live at the standard of living they've been accustomed to. That is why the resale market has been hit.
Wealthy buy second hand just as much, from handbags to furniture, but they look for premium pieces, that’s why places like 1stDibs exist. But what brands have miscalculated is that even in luxury volume matters and their volume comes from a middle class with disposable income.
@@IceCream-hp7mm I've never seen any wealthy person I've known in my entire life buy second hand aside from antiques. 1stdibs may have a few wealthy people on it but they're selling, not buying. The ones who can't afford retail price are buying.

Thank you so much. Some very interesting points here x
Love this! X
The internet has destroyed luxury.
In which way?
Hermes 💩 no longer sells direct to their customers that used to buy Hermes 💩 handbags 👜 but they prefer to sell to grey market dealers and they ask old Hermes 💩 customers to buy from those resellers ! So no thanks 🙂↔ I now buy Dior ⭐ handbags 👜 for my wife where they treat me like 👍 how Hermes 💩 used to treat me ! For my wife, no effect she has enough Hermes 💩 bags 💼 so she has now started her collection of Dior ⭐ bags 💼! Sigh 😮💨
Dior def have a wonderful customer service. Yep I often wonder where the resellers get all their bags from. X
Can you elaborate on what you mean by consumers and RUclipsrs being resellers? X
@@marlenepopov8469 the wealthy can hold off on selling until the markets pick up again, it’s the ones who need to get their liquidity back who are selling now.
@@marlenepopov8469in the states I once saw a news report that did a study of the most common car owned by suburban millionaires. Was it Mercedes, Audi, etc? Nope. It was new or gently used, Toyota Camry. Kinda makes sense, most wealthy people are wealthy because they are sensible.
@@rilethomp That is not the norm among the wealthy. You can technically be worth a million dollars but not be wealthy. Being worth a million dollars now is not the same as being worth a million dollars and living in the suburbs years ago.
